Amid the consecutive setbacks for the Opposition bloc, Congress Chief Mallikarjun Kharge said that the party was giving its best effort to minimise the differences within the INDIA alliance.
Amid the ongoing turbulence in the political landscape of Bihar ahead of the 2024 Lok Sabha Polls, Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge on Saturday asserted that the grand old party is trying its best to minimise differences within the INDIA bloc. On Saturday, while addressing the reporters in Bengaluru, Kharge said that he had no "information about Janata Dal (United) leaving the alliance".
However, on the other hand, it has been reported that JD(U) veteran Nitish Kumar is likely to resign from the post of Bihar Chief Minister today, and that several Congress MLAs will go with him.
Mentioning that he had written a letter to Nitish Kumar and even tried to speak to him, Kharge further added, "But I don't know what's on Nitish's mind. Tomorrow, I will go to Delhi and get full information. Let's see what happens."
While commenting on the current turmoil within the Opposition alliance, Kharge also said that the Congress is reaching out their best effort to make "everyone unite" in the INDIA alliance. Kharge further elaborated that he had also spoken to Trinamool Congress supremo Mamata Banerjee, and CPI(M) general secretary Sitaram Yechury.
"I told them (Mamata Banerjee and Sitaram Yechury) that we need to be united only then we can give a good fight (in the upcoming Lok Sabha elections)," Mallikarjun Kharge said.
The INDIA bloc has been witnessing several setbacks since the last few days with several leaders of the regional parties raising issues about Congress's failure in seat-sharing talks.
Before Nitish Kumar changed his mind, it started with Bengal CM and TMC Supremo Mamata Banerjee's announcement of going solo in Lok Sabha Polls followed by Delhi CM and AAP Chief Arvind Kejriwal's decision to do the same.
