Bihar: Under Construction Bridge Washes Away in Vaishali, People Stuck Midway

In a third incident this month, a portion of a temporary bridge in Vaishali, Bihar got washed away allegedly due to gusty winds. People crossing the bridge got stuck midway.

A portion of a temporary bridge that was built on the Ganges in Vaishali, Bihar got washed away today allegedly due to strong winds. The bridge was open for the public to use and during the incident, people were still on the bridge and some got stuck midway.

According to the reports, the bridge connected Raghopur to the Vaishali district headquarters.

The washing away of the bridge has not resulted in any casualties, reportedly. This incident becomes the third of its kind in Bihar this month.

Reportedly people were gathered around the locations and many were stranded on the rest of the bridge.

According to PTI, an under-construction bridge over the Mechi River, connecting Araria and Kishanganj districts in Bihar, caved in near NH-327E on June 24. Following that, the National Highway Authority of India (NHAI) on Sunday suspended four officials who were part of the project.

Another under-construction bridge, which was supposed to connect Khagaria district with Bhagalpur, collapsed on June 4. The State government slapped a show cause notice on the construction company concerned. Reportedly, a portion of this bridge collapsed on April 30 last year as well.

Chief Minister of Bihar, Nitish Kumar told the media after the bridge collapse of June 4, “This is not the first time that the bridge collapsed. In the past too, I had asked for an investigation into why the incident happened. I have also asked for strict action to be taken against those responsible."
