Breaking News LIVE: Supreme Court To Hear Review Petition For Same-Sex Marriage Verdict 

A five-judge bench led by Chief Justice of India (CJI) DY Chandrachud will hear a batch of petitions seeking a review of the top court’s October 16 judgement refusing to recognise same-sex marriages in India.

At least 12 review petitions were filed challenging the verdict and calling for a more inclusive interpretation of marriage laws that are extended to same-sex couples.

By-poll Elections Today: Which Constituencies Are Voting?

A total of 13 constituencies across seven states will be voting today in by-poll elections. The constituencies involved are -

  • Raiganj, Ranaghat Dakshin, Bagda, and Maniktala in West Bengal

National News LIVE:BJP Kedarnath MLA Shaila Rani Rawat Dies 

BJP MLA from Kedarnath Shaila Rani Rawat died at the Max Hospital here late on Tuesday night. She was 68, family sources said.

Rawat was being treated for a backbone injury and had been placed on on ventilator support for the last few days.

She won the Kedarnath seat to make it to the Uttarakhand Assembly for the first time in 2012 on a Congress ticket. She lost the seat in 2017 but won it again in 2022 on a Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) ticket.

World News LIVE: Imran Khan Denied Pre-Arrest Bail By Pakistan Court 

A Pakistani court on Tuesday refused pre-arrest bail to former prime minister Imran Khan in three cases of May 9 riots and allowed police his custody for interrogation.

Khan was booked on the charges of abetment in attacks on Lahore Corps Commander House known as Jinnah House, Askari Tower, and Shadman police station on May 9, 2023 following his arrest in a graft case.

National News LIVE: Search Operation Underway IN J&K's Kathua

A search operation by security forces is underway in Kathua. This operation comes after an Indian army convoy was attacked, killing five personnel.

Following the terror attack, Defence Secretary Giridhar Aramane expressed condolences over the incident and said, "I express profound grief on the loss of five Bravehearts in a terrorist attack in Badnota, Kathua, and extend deepest condolences to the bereaved families."

A spokesperson from the Defence Ministry also stated that "their sacrifice will not go unavenged and India will defeat the evil forces behind the attack".

Indonesia Landslide NEws: Death Toll Rises to 23,Dozens Buried 

Search efforts for those trapped in a deadly landslide intensified Wednesday, with more rescuers deployed to search an unauthorized gold mine on Indonesia's Sulawesi island that saw 23 deaths over the weekend.

More than 100 villagers were digging for grains of gold Sunday in the remote and hilly village of Bone Bolango in Gorontalo province when tons of mud plunged down the surrounding hills and buried their makeshift camps.

The provincial Search and Rescue Office said Wednesday that 81 villagers managed to escape from the landslide, several of them pulled out by rescuers, including 18 with injuries. It said 23 bodies were recovered, including a 4-year-old boy, while 33 others were missing.

The Mumbai Police will now have to investigate his association with an underworld gang, and how is he able to afford his properties and such fancy cars. How did he become a close aide of the CM also needs to be exposed... The accused was under the influence of drugs, and to avoid this from coming into his medical records, he was hidden somewhere for three days... The way an innocent woman was crushed to death by him, under the influence of drugs, is inhuman. Such people should not be released from jail...," stated Shiv Sena UBT Leader Sanjay Raut.

A voter turnout of over 22 per cent was registered in the bypolls to four Assembly constituencies of West Bengal till 11 am on Wednesday, as per Election Commission official figures.

Among the constituencies, Ranaghat Dakshin saw the highest turnout with 26.32 per cent voting, followed by Raiganj at 25.98 per cent, Bagda at 22.63 per cent and Maniktala at 21.89 per cent.

Mumbai BMW Accident Case: Accused Admits He Was Driving

Mihir Shah - the son of a politician and main accused in the Mumbai BMW hit-and-run case - has reportedly admitted that he was driving the car when the incident occurred. According to sources cited in an NDTV report, Mihir Shah has also claimed he wasn't drunk.

Mihir Shah was arrested last evening. A total of 12 people, including Shah's mother and two sisters, were taken into custody.

Supreme Court has reserved its judgement on a PIL alleging that there has been a rise in child marriages in the country.

The matter was heard by a bench of comprising Chief Justice D Y Chandrachud and justices J B Pardiwala and Manoj Misra heard submissions from 'Society for Enlightenment and Voluntary Action', and Additional Solicitor General Aishwarya Bhati.

Two policemen were injured on Wednesday when the members of the "Chaddi-Baniyan" gang of Madhya Pradesh allegedly attacked them during Mahazar (recreation of crime scene) at Mulki near here, police said.

National News LIVE:  NCW Welcomes SC Ruling On Alimoney for Divorced Muslim Women

NCW chief Rekha Sharma welcomed the Supreme Court's landmark ruling that affirms the right of Muslim women to seek maintenance, saying the decision is a significant step towards ensuring gender equality and justice for all women, regardless of their religion.

The Supreme Court on Wednesday ruled that a Muslim woman can seek maintenance from her husband under Section 125 of the Code of Criminal Procedure (CrPC), which is applicable to all married women irrespective of religion.

"I wholeheartedly welcome the Supreme Court's landmark ruling that affirms the right of Muslim women to seek maintenance under Section 125 of the CrPC. This decision is a significant step towards ensuring gender equality and justice for all women, regardless of their religion,” she said.

Bypolls News LIVE Today: Sporadic Violence Reported In U'khand, Bengal

Moderate to brisk polling was recorded in 13 assembly constituencies across seven states where bypolls were underway on Wednesday amid sporadic incidents of violence in Uttarakhand and West Bengal.

The electoral exercise, the first since the Lok Sabha polls, will decide the fate of many veterans and some debutantes, including Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu's wife Kamlesh Thakur.

The bypolls are being held against vacancies created either due to deaths or resignation of incumbent members.

Uttarakhand Bypolls LIVE News: 4 Hurt In Clash In Manglaur Constituency

Four people were injured in a clash between supporters of rival parties at a polling booth in Uttarkhand's Manglaur assembly constituency where bypolls were underway on Wednesday, according to police.

Polling was also underway in the state's Badrinath assembly constituency.

By 3 pm, a voter turnout of 56.21 per cent was recorded in Manglaur and 40.50 per cent in Badrinath.

JK Kathua Ambush LIVE News: 24 Detained In Search Ops For Terrorists

At least 24 people have been detained for questioning as the hunt for the terrorists behind the ambush in Jammu and Kashmir’s Kathua district, in which five army personnel were killed, entered its third day on Wednesday, officials said.

The search operation by the army and police is underway amid intermittent heavy rain in dense forests across four districts, besides Kathua. It was launched from three different areas -- Kathua, Udhampur and Bhaderwah, official said.

NEET-UG Paper Leak Row LIVE: NTA Files Affidavit In SC 

National Testing Agency (NTA) files affidavit in the Supreme Court in relation to the NEET-UG 2024 exam.

The NTA, having come to know about the malpractice by individuals at Godhra and few centers at Patna, has made an assessment of the performance of all the appeared candidates at the concerned centers to come to the conclusion as to whether any tangible impact of the malpractice at that centers has taken place so as to have wide spread ramifications of impactable magnitude, it says.

The data analysis of the performance so done by the NTA succinctly indicates that the alleged malpractices have not, either impacted the sanctity of the entire exam or resulted in any undue benefit to the students appearing at the centers in Godhra and Patna, affidavit of NTA says.
