A bus carrying employees of a private company ploughed into the boundary wall of a group housing society in Noida on Tuesday, killing a fast food seller who had set up his shop outside the residential complex, police said.
The deceased has been identified as Nepali-origin Deepak (30), while his younger brother Sushil (18) suffered severe injuries in the crash and has been hospitalised in critical condition, PTI quoted police.
The police and witnesses estimated that around 20-25 passengers were on board the bus when the incident took place at 6.54 pm on a road next to Shri Ram Apartments in Sector 118, under the Sector 113 Police station limits.

Massive security arrangements have been put in place for the swearing-in ceremony of Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi on Wednesday, an official said. Prime Minister Narendra Modi, a number of Union Ministers and chief ministers of several states ruled by the BJP are likely to attend the event.
In the recently concluded state Assembly election, the BJP won 78 of the 147 seats, while the BJD bagged 51 seats.
Apart from the VVIPs, about 30,000 people are expected to attend the ceremony to be held at Janata Maidan.
TDP chief N Chandrababu Naidu will be sworn in as the chief minister of Andhra Pradesh on Wednesday for a fourth term. The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) is set soon initiate the process of wide organisational changes with the launch of a fresh membership drive, followed by an internal poll across states leading up to the election of a new party president.

Three people, all women, died while 24 were injured when a bus driver lost control over the vehicle and it fell into a gorge near Gangnani on the Gangotri National Highway in Uttarakhand, police said on Wednesday.
According to them, the incident occurred 50 km from Gangnani on Tuesday night. The bus went out of the driver's control, broke the crash barrier, fell into the gorge and got stuck on a tree before it could hit the bottom, police officials said.

The World Health Organization (WHO) on Tuesday confirmed a human case of bird flu in India. A four-year-old child in West Bengal has got the infection, caused by H9N2 virus.
The child was reportedly admitted to the pediatric intensive care unit (ICU) of a local hospital after facing persistent severe respiratory issues. This is the second H9N2 bird flu case in India; the first was reported back in 2019.

An orange alert has been issued in Delhi for heatwave, IMD scientist Soma Sen said, adding that similar conditions are going to prevail in the entire Northern belt for the next four-five days.
"A western disturbance has passed... The skies are now clear, indicating that a heatwave situation will go on the entire Northern belt for the next 4-5 days... We have issued a red alert for Bihar, East UP and Jharkhand for the next 2-5 days," Sen said.
"Heatwave is expected in isolated pockets of Punjab and Haryana, because of which an orange alert has been issued for the two states. In Delhi, an orange alert has been issued for today, after which we will move towards a yellow alert. Easterlies are expected by 18-19 June, giving rise to the possibility of thunderstorms in Bihar and adjoining areas... Monsoon has advanced and has reached most parts of Maharashtra, southern Chhattisgarh, parts of Telangana and coastal Andhra Pradesh...," she said.

A mental health institute in Chandigarh received a bomb threat over email on Wednesday, following which patients and employees were moved to safety and a search operation was initiated, police said.
An official of the institute claimed the same email has been sent to a number of hospitals in Delhi and south India.
A Chandigarh police official said they were searching the premises of the mental health institute but nothing has been found so far. Besides police personnel, bomb disposal squad and fire department officials have been deputed at the site.

The Delhi High Court on Wednesday refused to put a stay on NEET-UG counselling amid the controversy over paper leak and irregularities in the exam results. It granted the testing panel to file a response, India Today report said.
Odisha CM-designate Mohan Charan Majhi, who invited BJD supremo and former chief minister Naveen Patnaik to his swearing-in ceremony, asserted that the latter will attend the ceremony.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi condoled the fire tragedy in Kuwait that claimed the lives of over 40 people.
"My thoughts are with all those who have lost their near and dear ones. I pray that the injured recover at the earliest," he said.
He also noted that the Indian Embassy in Kuwait was "closely monitoring the situation and working with the authorities there to assist the affected."
