In a recent development, Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot announced on Friday night that Rajasthan will be conducting a comprehensive caste survey, drawing inspiration from a similar initiative undertaken in Bihar. The decision was formalized during a core committee meeting of the Rajasthan Pradesh Congress Committee (RPCC) at the party's war room.
Key figures present at the meeting included Congress in-charge for Rajasthan, Sukhjinder Randhawa, CM Ashok Gehlot, RPCC president Govind Singh Dotasra, and other prominent leaders. Gehlot, addressing reporters post-meeting, emphasized that the caste survey aligns with Congress leader Rahul Gandhi's vision of understanding caste dynamics and ensuring proportional representation, PTI reported.
Gehlot expressed the importance of acknowledging the diverse population in Rajasthan, encompassing various castes and religions. He stated that by understanding the demographic distribution of different castes, the government can formulate targeted and effective schemes tailored to their specific needs.
"We have decided that, in line with the party's mandate, the Rajasthan government should declare this campaign to further Rahul Gandhi's concept of a caste survey and proportional participation," Gehlot asserted.
During the meeting, discussions extended beyond the caste survey to include deliberations on the Eastern Rajasthan Canal Project (ERCP) issue. Sukhjinder Randhawa highlighted that talks revolved around the proposed yatra concerning the ERCP, which aims to address irrigation and drinking water needs in 13 districts. Although the yatra was initially slated for five days, it was postponed, and a critical meeting on Monday will determine the new schedule.
