Congress chief Mallikarjun Kharge has sought time from President Droupadi Murmu on behalf of the opposition parties to discuss the Manipur issue on Tuesday.

According to the reports he has not yet received confirmation on this from the President.

The opposition parties have been demanding a comprehensive discussion on the violent situation in Manipur in both the Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha along with a statement from the prime minister in Parliament.

The opposition parties have also requested the President's intervention in the situation, stating that the ongoing violence in the northeastern state under BJP rule has resulted in numerous fatalities.

A group of 21 opposition MPs have travelled to a state in India that is experiencing ethnic conflict. They have informed leaders of the INDIA alliance about the situation there, after visiting affected areas and speaking with people in relief camps located in both the hills and valley.

Congress leader in the Lok Sabha Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury, who was part of the opposition delegation to Manipur, has described the situation in the state as "grave".
