A fiery controversy engulfed Varanasi as a group of individuals staged a protest against the film "Adipurush," passionately tearing down its posters. Amidst the chaos, the Hindu Mahasabha swiftly lodged a complaint with the Lucknow police, urging action against the film's creators. The Samajwadi Party joined the chorus of dissent, criticizing the film's dialogues as "cheap and superficial," while accusing it of harboring a hidden agenda, as PTI reported
"Adipurush," directed by Om Raut, presents a contemporary interpretation of the revered epic Ramayana. However, since its release on Friday, the film has faced scathing criticism for its colloquial dialogues and the contentious portrayal of certain characters.
In a display of their discontent, activists representing a Hindu outfit passionately protested against the film in Varanasi. Defiantly tearing down its posters, they rallied fellow citizens to shun the movie entirely. The spirited demonstrators congregated at a temple and subsequently marched towards a local mall in the Sigra area, chanting slogans that echoed their vehement opposition. Their fervor grew as they demanded an immediate halt to the film's screening. However, their progress was swiftly halted by the intervention of law enforcement personnel.
Simultaneously, in the state capital of Lucknow, the Hindu Mahasabha wasted no time in registering a formal complaint at the Hazratganj police station. Their plea was simple yet resolute: initiate legal proceedings against the actors, producer, and director involved in the film. Although the complaint has been lodged, police authorities have yet to formally file a case in response, as PTI reported.
Adding to the escalating tensions, Samajwadi Party President Akhilesh Yadav publicly criticized the film, challenging the integrity of those who toy with people's faith through movies infused with hidden political motives. Taking to Twitter, he questioned whether the esteemed Censor Board had metamorphosed into a Dhritarashtra-like figure, a reference to the blind king from the epic Mahabharata who turned a blind eye to wrongdoing.
Amidst the disapproval, another prominent figure from the Samajwadi Party, Shivpal Yadav, levied serious allegations, claiming a deliberate attempt to diminish the grandeur of Lord Ram and his timeless tale through cinema. He asserted that this depiction, coupled with the use of "cheap and superficial dialogues," caused profound anguish among millions of devout followers. In a passionate plea, he demanded an apology from the BJP, labeling their members as "so-called 'sanatani' individuals," urging them not to tarnish the legacy of Lord Ram.
