This is the third violent incident in the Union Territory in the past three days.
In today’s attack, Jammu and Kashmir Police’s Head Constable Ghulam Mohammad Dar was shot at by the terrorists outside his residence at Kralpora in Pattan area of the district in north Kashmir, PTI report quoting officials said.
They said Dar was rushed to a nearby hospital where he succumbed to injuries.
This is the third such militant attack in as many days in Kashmir.
Earlier, on Sunday a police officer Masroor Ahmad Wani was critically injured after militants fired upon him while he was playing cricket at Eidgah ground in Srinagar’s Downtown area.
On Monday, a non-local labourer from Uttar Pradesh was shot dead in south Kashmir’s Pulwama district.
Following surge in militant attacks, security forces have intensified the checking of vehicles and pedestrians in UT.
Mobile vehicle checkpoints have been established at all major intersections in Srinagar as well as at the city's exit points.
