The India Meteorological Department on Friday predicted that a low-pressure area in the Bay of Bengal and the South Andaman Sea would intensify into a cyclone and reach Tamil Nadu and Andhra Pradesh on December 4.
According to an official release issued by the India Meteorological Department (IMD), the low-pressure area is likely to move northwest, form a depression over the Bay of Bengal and intensify into a cyclonic storm ‘Miachaung’.

According to an official release issued by the Met department, the low-pressure area is likely to move northwest, form a depression over the Bay of Bengal and intensify into a cyclonic storm ‘Miachaung’.
It has also been forecasted that the Andaman and Nicobar Islands would receive isolated heavy rainfall on December 1 while the coastal regions of Tamil Nadu and Puducherry would receive isolated heavy to very heavy rainfall from December 2 to December 4.
Similarly, isolated heavy to very heavy rainfall has been predicted over the coastal belts of Andhra Pradesh on December 3 and 4, the IMD said.
As a pre-emptive measure in light of the possibility of a cyclonic weather, IMD warned fishers not to venture into the southeast Bay of Bengal till December 2, into southwest Bay of Bengal till December 4 and westcentral Bay of Bengal till December 5.
