Delhi Commission for Women (DCW) Chairperson Swati Maliwal on Monday said she is issuing a notice to Delhi Police after three killings on Sunday.
In two separate incidents, two women and a man were killed on Sunday, leading to criticism of the law and order situation in Delhi.
Maliwal said that no one is safe in Delhi and it's time that "the Central government to whom the Delhi Police reports to needs to break its sleep" on the issue of law and order in Delhi.
Maliwal also said she is issuing a notice to DCW to fix its accountability.
In a separate statement, Maliwal said that the law and order situation in Delhi has crumbled entirely and no one is safe in Delhi, irrespective of their status or place of living.
Three murders shocked Delhi in a span of 24 hours on Sunday.
In one case, a first-year Delhi University (DU) student was stabbed to death outside DU's Aryabhatta College in the South Campus area on Sunday after he objected to his girlfriend being harassed by another student, according to police.
In the second case, two sisters were shot dead in southwest Delhi's RK Puram area in the early hours of Sunday over a suspected financial dispute between the women's brother and the alleged killers. The PTI reported that three people have been arrested in the case.
The three murders led to outrage and a political slugfest as well. The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) lashed out at the Delhi Lieutenant Governor VK Saxena over the deteriorating law and order situation in Delhi.
Delhi BJP chief Virendra Sachdeva, however, criticised at Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal for not visiting Mukherjee Nagar area following a fire outbreak at a coaching centre there. Last week, following a fire, students had to smash windows and use ropes and ladders to flee the building that had caught fire.
Sharing a news clip of the 19-year-old DU student's murder, Maliwal tweeted, "There is absolutely no fear of law in the minds of criminals today. They think they can get away with anything. The law and order situation in the capital needs immediate action!"
In a statement to ANI, Maliwal said in Hindi that no one is safe in Delhi irrespective of their status.
Maliwal told ANI, "Law and order situation has completely crumbled in Delhi. No one is safe in Delhi, whether they are rich or poor or live in a posh locality or a slum...No one is afraid of the law. I want to ask the Central government, when is their long silence on women's safety going to break? Why is the accountability of Delhi Police not fixed? Why are the resources of Delhi Police not increased? Why is a system not created that leads to fear of law in people's heart? It's very shameful. It needs immediate action."
