A 12-year-old girl was reportedly gang-raped by a man and three boys after being lured to a secluded spot in Delhi's Sadar Bazaar by a woman, according to police on Sunday.
The man and woman were arrested and the three accused teenagers were apprehended on January 4.
The incident occurred on January 2 in the Sadar Bazar area. "A 29-year-old woman who is a regular customer of a tea stall, and known to the girl, allegedly lured her to a secluded location, where three juveniles aged -- 12, 14 and 15 years -- along with the 38-year-old tea stall owner Suresh were waiting," a senior police officer told PTI.
The accused had reportedly constructed a temporary shelter using plastic tarpaulin inside a sealed building in the area to spend the night. The police suspect that the man might have offered the woman some money in exchange for bringing the girl to them.
The next day, the woman encountered the 12-year-old girl, another ragpicker, and allegedly directed her to collect garbage from the roof of a building in Khurshid Market.
Upon reaching the location, the four accused awaited her. They proceeded to take turns raping her inside the temporary structure. Subsequently, they issued threats, warning her of dire consequences if she revealed the incident to anyone.
After the assault, the girl returned to her residence in North West Delhi and maintained silence for two days. On January 5, when she went back to Sadar Bazaar to collect garbage, she confided in her cousin, a resident of the area.
The cousin then informed her parents, and the family reported the incident to the police.
The police told the media that a case of gangrape was registered and all the accused were apprehended shortly after the survivor filed her complaint.
According to the reports, the owner of the tea shop is from Chhattisgarh, while the three boys employed at the establishment hail from Uttar Pradesh and Madhya Pradesh.
