Delhi Court Extends CBI's Deadline For Forensic Results In 1984 Anti-Sikh Riots Case Involving Congress Leader Jagdish Tytler

In a significant development, a Delhi court has given the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) a five-day extension to submit the forensic results pertaining to the voice samples of Congress leader Jagdish Tytler, who is an accused in a case related to the alleged Pul Bangash killings during the 1984 anti-Sikh riots. The court, presided over by Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Vidhi Gupta Anand, also scheduled a decision on whether to take cognizance of the charge sheet filed against Tytler for July 26, as reported by PTI.

The delay in the case arises from the awaited Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL) result, as mentioned by the investigating officer (IO) during the court proceedings on July 21.

The case pertains to the tragic events of November 1, 1984, in which three individuals lost their lives, and a gurdwara was set ablaze in the Pul Bangash area of Delhi, occurring a day after the assassination of the then Prime Minister, Indira Gandhi.

According to the CBI's charge sheet, Jagdish Tytler is accused of inciting, instigating, and provoking the mob that gathered at Pul Bangash Gurdwara Azad Market on that fateful day, resulting in the burning down of the gurdwara and the death of three Sikhs - Thakur Singh, Badal Singh, and Guru Charan Singh. The charges against Tytler include Sections 147 (rioting), 109 (abetment), and 302 (murder) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC), among others.
