Deputy Commissioner of Police (South) Chandan Chowdhary, who reached the spot, said that the woman has head injuries and was attacked with the iron rod.
Chowdhary identified the deceased woman as a student of DU's all-women Kamala Nehru College. She was seen at a park where she was found dead with a friend.
Chowdhary told media in Hindi, "The incident happened in the park. She is a college student aged 22-23 who was here with a friend. Young people come to the park. Aurobindo College is adjacent to the park. She has head injuries from an iron rod. Further investigation is on and legal action is being taken."
Responding to media personnel's questions, Chowdhary said the woman is a student of Kamala Nehru College and her family has been informed.
According to multiple media reports, the girl's family had allegedly rejected a marriage proposal from the accused's side and the girl stopped talking to him.
Reacting to the woman's death, Delhi Commission for Women (DCW) Chairperson Swati Maliwal said that Delhi is very insecure and "only names of girls change in newspaper reports, crimes don't stop".
"In one incident, a woman was shot dead outside her home. In another incident, in a posh area like Malviya Nagar, a girl has been killed with a road. Delhi is very insecure. No one cares about it. Only names of girls change in newspaper reports, crimes don't stop," said Maliwal in a tweet in Hindi
