Delhi Police Bolsters Security At Jantar Mantar And Borders Ahead Of Farmers' Meeting In Support Of Protesting Wrestlers

The authorities are implementing vehicle checks and increasing pickets at the border areas, while deploying additional security personnel and enhancing patrolling to ensure a peaceful gathering.

The Delhi Police has heightened security measures at Jantar Mantar and the national capital's borders in anticipation of a farmers' meeting in support of protesting wrestlers. Vehicles entering Delhi will undergo thorough checks, and additional pickets will be stationed at the border areas. Multi-layer barricades have been set up at the protest site, with round-the-clock surveillance facilitated by CCTV cameras. Patrolling will be intensified, and extra security personnel will be deployed if required.

A 31-member committee advising the protesting wrestlers has expressed their ultimatum to arrest Wrestling Federation of India (WFI) chief Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh by May 21, warning of a significant decision if their demand is not met. Leaders such as Rakesh Tikait, Mehar Singh, and Baldev Singh Sirsa have joined the wrestlers on the dais to show support and address the media. The wrestlers have been staging their protest at Jantar Mantar since April 23.

Earlier, the Delhi Police had registered two FIRs against the WFI chief on allegations of sexual harassment, filed by seven women wrestlers, including a minor. As tensions continue, heightened security measures aim to ensure the safety and peaceful conduct of the farmers' meeting and the ongoing protests.
