Delhi Police intensify their pursuit as they urge a local court to frame charges against BJP MP Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh, a former WFI chief, in a case involving alleged sexual harassment of women wrestlers.
Delhi Police have formally requested a local court to press charges against Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh, a BJP Member of Parliament and former chief of the Wrestling Federation of India (WFI), in connection with alleged sexual harassment of women wrestlers.
Despite Singh's assertion that some incidents occurred overseas and thus fall beyond the jurisdiction of Delhi courts, the police argued that these incidents, both abroad and in Delhi, constitute part of the same offense.
During the argument for framing charges, the police asserted before Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Priyanka Rajpoot that the Delhi court holds the authority to adjudicate on this case. The court is scheduled to continue proceedings on January 20.
The city police had filed a charge sheet on June 15, 2023, citing sections 354 (assault or criminal force to woman with intent to outrage her modesty), 354-A (sexual harassment), 354-D (stalking), and 506 (criminal intimidation) of the Indian Penal Code against Singh, a six-time Member of Parliament.
