IPS officer Dilbagh Singh was on Thursday given additional charge as the Director General of Police (DGP) in Jammu and Kashmir replacing S.P. Vaid.
In February this year, Dilbag Singh, IPS officer of 1987 batch was posted DG Prisons following escape of high profile Pakistani prisoner Naveed Jatt. Naveed Jatt is top LeT militant and wanted in many cases.
Dilbagh Singh was posted as DG Prisons to set things right. Before that he was Commandant General, Home Guards, SDRF, J&K.
Singh has held important positions in Jammu and Kashmir Police including serving as the intelligence chief of the state. He started his carrier as the Additional Superintendent of Police in Kupwara district.
Singh, however has had a brush with controversy nearly two decades ago. In 2000, Dilbagh Singh was suspended as the Deputy Inspector General of south Kashmir's Anantnag after he was allegedly found involved in a major recruitment scam, according to a report
Singh has served as ADGP security, Inspector General of Police, IGP Crime and Railways, J&K; Intelligence Chief of J&K;
He has alos served as IGP Traffic, J&K; IGP Home Guards, Civil Defence and Auxiliary Police J&K; IGP Armed Police J&K and Director, Sher-e-Kashmir State Police Academy Udhampur.
