The counting of votes began at 8 AM on October 8 for the state of Haryana. As per the exit polls, the Indian National Congress was slated to win the elections. However, as the counting of votes began, it was revealed that the BJP is set for a third term.
By 10 PM IST, the Election Commission of India declared that the Bharatiya Janta Party had won 48 seats in the 90 seat assembly and is all set to form its third consecutive government in the state. The Congress on the other hand won 37 seats.
The Indian National Lok Dal failed to make its mark in Haryana and won only two seats. Whereas, the Arvind Kejriwal-led Aam Aadmi Party was nowhere to be seen.
Key candidates from the BJP included incumbent CM Nayab Singh Saini and former CM Anil Vij - who won their respective seats.
Congress' Bhupinder Singh Hooda and wrestler Vinesh Phogat also won their seats. Independent candidate Savitri Jindal also won her seat in Hisar.
