Goa: Italian Envoy’s Wife Injured During Fireworks On New Year At Resort, Owner Booked

The owner of a resort in Goa has been booked over a complaint that fireworks set off from his premises on New Year celebrations allegedly injured Italian Ambassador’s wife.

The victim has been identified as Paola Ferri, wife of Vincenzo De Luca, the Ambassador of Italy to India and Nepal. The resort is located in North Goa’s Mandrem.

The incident took place on January 1, however the complaint was filed on Friday by Shrinivas Dempo, the Honorary Vice-Consul of Italy in Goa, following which an FIR was registered at Mandrem police station, IE reported.

The report quoting the complaint said, “the owner and proprietor of a resort in Ashvem negligently allowed launching fireworks from the premises of the resort, thereby endangering human life and personal safety of others.”

According to the report, Ferri was in the vicinity of a resort in Ashvem from where some fireworks had been set off as part of New Year festivities.

“She suffered an injury to her head from the fireworks. At the time of the incident, no complaint had been lodged. The complaint was forwarded from the collector’s office recently and subsequently, a probe has been initiated,” the report quoted the police as saying.

“A case has been registered. No arrests have been made so far. The statement of the victim will be recorded and legal action shall be taken,” it added.

“The FIR was registered against the accused owner of the resort under section 336 (act endangering life or personal safety of others) of the Indian Penal Code,” the police said.
