Gunfire Erupts At Samastipur Court, Leaving Detainees Wounded

Turbulence erupted within the premises of Samastipur Court on Saturday, August 26, when gunshots echoed through the air, jolting the surroundings. Defiant criminals openly confronted law enforcement, targeting two detainees with gunfire, leading to a state of alarm and disarray. The detainees, known as Prabhat Chaudhary and Prabhat Tiwari, were present at the courthouse for a scheduled hearing when the shots were fired, setting off a flurry of chaos. Both wounded detainees are now under medical care, while the attackers managed to evade the scene.

As per available details, both detainees were incarcerated in relation to a liquor-related case. On the Saturday morning in question, during their transfer to the courthouse, four assailants intercepted them and initiated gunfire, leaving Prabhat Chaudhary severely wounded in the thigh, and Prabhat Tiwari with a gunshot injury to his hand. Subsequent to the assault, the assailants swiftly fled the court premises, making their escape through the main gate on foot, covering a distance of approximately 30 to 40 meters.

The accompanying police officers promptly rushed the injured detainees to Sadar Hospital for medical attention amid an atmosphere of tension. Following the incident, a team from the District Investigation Unit, comprising officers from local and rural police stations, arrived on the scene. Notable officers, DSP Amit Kumar and SP Vinay Tiwari, also conducted inquiries at the hospital after visiting the site.

The four assailants who fired the shots remain free. SP Vinay Tiwari disclosed that a few days prior, a well-known member of the liquor mafia, Prabhat Chaudhary, had been apprehended after an intensive six-month-long search, with assistance from the Special Task Force (STF). He had been arrested and placed in judicial custody, with the ongoing trial for this case scheduled for the day of the incident.

In response, a Special Task Force (STF) has been established under the supervision of the Sadar DSP. Authorities have identified the identities of the assailants.

The incident has provoked concerns about the security measures in place at the Samastipur Court premises and has raised inquiries regarding the safety of individuals involved in high-profile cases. Law enforcement has initiated a comprehensive investigation to apprehend the suspects and guarantee the security of the court premises and its occupants.

Meanwhile, Samrat Chaudhari, the President of Bihar BJP, criticized the state's law and order situation, remarking, "Bihar CM Nitish Kumar is not able to handle the state...The situation in the state is not good and when there is a firing inside the court premises then how is the law & order strict in the state...Nitish Kumar should immediately resign."

Regarding this incident, BJP MP Sushil Kumar Modi expressed, "In this state, witnesses are not safe. A few days ago a journalist was killed in Araria, he was a witness in a murder case... If witnesses are not safe then the criminals won't get punishment. Frequently coal mafia and sand mafia are attacking police. These frequent attacks show that Nitish Kumar's USP of Law and Order is over..."
