Hours after addressing a press conference in Bengaluru, actor Prakash Raj wrote an open letter to The Press Club of Bengaluru saying his comment was distorted by one of the journalists.
The actor took to Twitter questioning the "trust" between actors and the media after a section of media reported that “Film actors becoming leaders is a disaster for my country”.
He clarified that he said actors should not join politics only because they are popular.
He had urged the actors to come with a clear perception of the issues the country is facing and win the trust of the people.
"Where is the trust between us...when this distorting facts can happen in the full presence of the journalists at their club. What action would you the press club take to correct such bitter unfair act," Raj wrote.
Prakash Raj also denied the possibility of joining a political party and said, "I am not joining any political party."
The statement comes a few days after veteran actor Kamal Hassan formally announced his decision to enter the political arena.
