This comes after a political row kicked off in the country following BBC's controversial documentary 'India: The Modi Question' on Gujarat riots 2022 that has been banned in India.
The Income Tax Department conducted a survey operation at the Delhi and Mumbai offices of the British Broadcasting Corporation (BBC) on Tuesday.
According to sources, the phones of employees have been seized and they have been asked to leave the office and go home early.
The survey comes as part of a tax evasion investigation, officials said.
The department is looking at documents related to the business operations of the company and those related to its Indian arm, they said.
As part of a survey, the Income Tax Department only covers the business premises of a company and does not raid residences and other locations of its promoters or directors.
