Odisha is battling with extreme rainfall on Wednesday as an aftermath of the deep depression said India Meteorological Department. They also mentioned that several areas of the state have reported receiving over 20 cm of rainfall over the past 24 hours.
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) issued a red alert for four districts of Odisha and said that the state has received extreme rainfall in the aftermath of the deep depression. Multiple stations of the department in the state have reported receiving over 20 cm of rainfall.
A rainfall warning has been issued by IMD for the rest of the week for several states on Wednesday. According to reports, Odisha is expected to experience heavy rainfall for the next 48 hours as a low-pressure area in the Bay of Bengal intensified into a deep depression on Tuesday. IMD predicted, "It is likely to weaken into a depression continuing west-northwestwards in the subsequent 24 hours."
IMD Bhubaneshwar has issued a red alert for Sundergarh, Jharsuguda, Bargarh and Sambalpur districts in Odisha and orange and yellow alerts for districts like Balangir, Kandhamal, Jajpur, Bhadrak and several others for August 2.
A boulder fell on a goods train in Sambalpur and derailed it. The restoration work is underway.
IMD said that light to moderate rainfall will be received by Bihar till August 5 and some isolated regions may experience heavy to very heavy rainfall during this period. According to the forecast, Jharkhand and Gangetic West Bengal can expect to experience extensive rainfall, with some areas likely to experience heavier rainfall than others.
