According to the latest IMD bulletin, rainfall activity will continue in several states in India till Thursday.
More rain is expected across several parts of India in the next four to five days as the India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecasted ‘heavy to very heavy’ rainfall across states in the eastern, northeastern, east-central and other regions till August 3. According to the latest MeT bulletin, rainfall activity will increase over the west coast and northwest India on Wednesday and Thursday.
Notably, an Inter-Ministerial Central Team (IMCT) is visiting Telangana today to assess the damage caused by floods in the state following the incessant rainfall it received last week. The team will be led by National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) Advisor Kunal Satyarthi and would include representatives of ministries/departments of agriculture, finance, jal shakti, power, road transport and highways, as well as National Remote Sensing Centre (NRSC).
Here is IMD's rain prediction across states this week:
It said light to moderate scattered to fairly widespread rainfall with isolated heavy rainfall is very likely over eastern Uttar Pradesh till Thursday, over eastern Rajasthan in the next 24 hours and on Wednesday, over Uttarakhand between Tuesday and Thursday; over western Uttar Pradesh on Tuesday and Wednesday; and over Himachal Pradesh, Punjab, Haryana-Chandigarh-Delhi on Wednesday and Thursday.
In central India, light to moderate scattered to fairly widespread rainfall with isolated heavy rainfall is expected in eastern Madhya Pradesh and northern Chhattisgarh over the next five days. East Madhya Pradesh may receive Isolated very heavy rainfall Wednesday.
Bihar, Jharkhand and Odisha are very likely to get light to moderate widespread rain with heavy rainfall at isolated places till Thursday and Gangetic West Bengal till Wednesday. Sub-Himalaya West Bengal and Sikkim are very likely to get rain Thursday, while Andaman & Nicobar Islands are likely to get rain in the next 24 hours.
Very heavy rainfall is likely in isolated parts of Arunachal Pradesh on Wednesday and Thursday, while Assam, Meghalaya, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram and Tripura are likely to witness heavy rainfall between Tuesday and Thursday.
Konkan coast, Goa and Madhya Maharashtra are likely to receive light to moderate rainfall with isolated heavy rainfall over the next five days.
Meanwhile, light to moderate isolated to scattered rainfall with heavy rainfall in some parts is very likely over Telangana on Tuesday and over coastal Karnataka on Wednesday and Thursday.
At least 18 people lost their lives in various rain-related incidents due to the downpour that lashed Telangana during the past week.
