Amid speculations that Dushyant Chautala’s mother Naina, a Jannayak Janta Party (JJP) MLA, will become the deputy CM of Haryana, Manohar Lal Khattar clarified that it was the son who was in line for the post.
Khattar, who is headed for a second straight term as the Haryana CM, told the media: “Tomorrow at 2:15 PM, the oath-taking ceremony will be held at Raj Bhavan. JJP leader Dushyant Chautala will take oath as Deputy CM.”
He also added that the BJP has staked claim to form the government and the governor has invited them after accepting their proposal.
Naina Chautala won from the Badhra assembly segment, defeating Congress candidate Ranbir Singh Mahendra with a margin of 13,704 votes in the just concluded elections.
Dushyant Chautala has emerged as a key player in formation of the new Haryana government after the poll results threw up a hung assembly. Chautala’s 11-month old JJP, a breakaway from the INLD, bagged 10 seats in the October 21 elections. BJP, which fell short of the halfway mark of 46 seats, needed support from Independents and JJP to form the government.
While Congress also sought an alliance with the JJP, Chautala decided to go with the BJP to form a ‘stable government’ in Haryana.
Meanwhile, Dushyant’s father Ajay Chautala was granted furlough and he will be out today evening or tomorrow morning. He has been granted furlough for two weeks.
