Congress leader Rahul Gandhi on Thursday wished the nation and its people on the occasion of 73rd Independence Day.
Taking to Twitter, his go-to platform to communicate with the people, the Gandhi scion invoked the father of the nation, Mahatma Gandhi, in his message to India.
“Complete independence will be complete only to the extent of our approach in practice to truth and nonviolence, - Mahatma Gandhi," he tweeted.
He further wrote: "My best wishes to all of you on this our 73rd Independence Day."
Over the past few days, the Congress leader has been involved in a heated exchange with Jammu and Kashmir Governor Satya Pal Malik over the situation in the state after the Centre scrapped Article 370, which granted special status to J&K.
Gandhi had, last week, claimed that there were reports of violence from Kashmir and the government must assuage people's concerns. Days later, Malik said he would send a plane for Gandhi to pay a visit to the state and see things were fine here.
Responding to Malik, the former Congress president said he didn't need a plane but "freedom to meet people."
Malik hit back saying the Gandhi scion was "putting pre-conditions", to which the latter once again responded, saying, "No conditions. When Can I come?"
Meanwhile, Prime Minister Narendra Modi hoisted the national flag at the historic Red Fort and delivered an address -- lasting almost two hours -- to the nation.
PM Modi spoke on a range of issues, including the abrogation of Jammu and Kashmir's special status, the triple talaq act, economy and terrorism.
