A school teacher identified as Rizwan Asad Pandit of Awantipore, Pulwama, has died in custody of the police, prompting a request for a magisterial inquiry, sources said.
Pandit, who was a teacher at a private school, was taken into custody as a 'terror suspect' and had a militancy background, police sources said.

Sources say Pandit was picked up a few days ago by the police and was lodged in the CARGO camp of Special Operations Group (SOG) of the Jammu and Kashmir police and died Monday evening.
Pandit, who was a teacher at a private school, was taken into custody as a "terror suspect" and had a militancy background, police sources said.
Confirming the death, a senior police officer said that the police have requested for magisterial inquiry under 176 CrPc to initiate a thorough probe to ascertain the actual cause of death.
The police have also ordered a separate inquiry into the incident.
Former Chief Minister Omar Abdullah termed the incident as "unacceptable" called for "exemplary punishment" to those responsible for Pandit's death.
