Final government's National Register of Citizens (NRC) list has been published. Ahead of the publication of the final NRC, several districts of Assam have been declared 'sensitive' and security has been beefed up as a precautionary measure.
Assam Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal on Friday said that the state government will take up the cause of those excluded from the final NRC to be published today and ensure that nobody is subjected to any "unnecessary harassment".

10:35 AM: The final list will be published on September 7.
10:23 AM: Prateek Hajela, State Coordinator, NRC said that a total of 3,11,21,004 people were found eligible for inclusion in the final NRC leaving out 19,06,657 persons including those who did not submit their claims. Those not satisfied with the outcome can file an appeal before Foreigners Tribunals.
10:18 AM: The final NRC reveals that 3.11 crore people have made it the list. The number of people excluded from the final list is just over 19 lakh. The earlier number stood at 41 lakh.

The Foreigners' Tribunals are Quasi-judicial courts mandated to hear appeals of those excluded from the NRC.
