INX Media Case: Justice N V Ramana told senior advocate Kapil Sibal, appearing for former Finance Minister P Chidambaram, that the case will be put before the CJI.

The Supreme Court on Wednesday said senior Congress leader P Chidambaram's plea challenging the Delhi High Court order dismissing his petition for pre-arrest bail in the INX media case will be put before the CJI to consider for urgent listing.

Justice N V Ramana told senior advocate Kapil Sibal, appearing for Chidambaram, that the case will be put before the CJI.

2:30 PM:  Chidambaram's legal team says it is willing to give an undertaking to the court saying Chidambaram will not leave Delhi and continue to cooperate with the probe but insists on protection from immediate arrest. 

2:29 PM: Chidambaram's legal team asks for immediate hearing but Justice Ramana says that the hearing cannot be held without the matter being listed. 

2:26 PM: SC registrar now says defects have been cured. 

2:25 PM:  Chidambaram's legal team also seeks the quashing of ED's lookout notice and reiterates that Chidambaram has always cooperated with the investigations.  The senior Congress' leader's legal team terms the lookout notice as unnecessary. 

2:18 : Supreme Court Registrar has been summoned to Justice Ramana's court to explain the defects in Chidambaram's plea. Chidambaram's lawyer Sibal has maintained that there are no defects in the plea.

2:17 PM: Justice Ramana tells Sibal that the Registry has red-flagged defects in Chidambaram's plea.

2:11 PM: Supreme Court registry says Chidambaram's petition has defects. 

2:07 PM: Chidambaram's legal team is back in Justice NV Ramana's court which had refused to hear the case earlier today.  The CJI is still hearing the Ayodhya matter.
