Rajiv Kumar, a resident of Ghaziabad, has been asked to pay Rs 10 crore by a group of hackers after they hacked into his email account.
The hackers have even threatened to circulate Kumar’s obscene pictures and claimed that they will leak his personal details, if he failed to pay the sum, officials said.
A case has been registered under various sections of the Indian Penal Code including criminal intimidation, insulting the modesty of a woman and intentional insult to provoke breach of peace, and section 66D of the IT Act, Deputy Superintendent of Police Anshu Jain told PTI.
The complainant also stated that the hackers are keeping a watch on the activities of Kumar’s family and are continuously harassing them.
The police’s cybercrime cell is currently probing the case and efforts are on to nab the hackers, the DSP said.
