Shiv Sena CM For 5 Years, Says Sanjay Raut Amid Final Talks On Govt Formation With Congress, NCP

People of Maharashtra want Uddhav Thackeray to become CM, says the Sena MP.

Shiv Sena leader Sanjay Raut asserted on Friday that his party will get the Maharashtra CM's post when the three-party alliance with Congress and NCP assumes power.

"Sena's chief minister will be there for full five years," he said.

"People of Maharashtra want Sena chief Uddhav Thackeray to become the CM," the  Sena MP added.

"The time for offers has ended," Raut said when asked about reports that the BJP had agreed to share the CM's post with the Sena.

Shiv Sena won't side with the BJP even if offered "Lord Indra's throne", Raut said.

Congress also backed the Shiv Sena's demand for the CM post. Congress leader Manikrao Thakare said on Friday said the next Maharashtra chief minister will be from the Shiv Sena and the Sharad Pawar-led NCP has not demanded the top post during state-level meetings on government formation,

"The chief minister will be from the Shiv Sena...The NCP did not demand the chief minister's post at the state-level meetings. The Congress, too, did not make any such demand," he said.

Asked if the three non-BJP parties would meet the state governor on Friday itself, Raut quipped, "Why meet the governor when the President's rule is in place".

Both Shiv Sena and NCP-Congress camps will hold important meetings today as a formal announcement on the three-party alliance for government formation is expected.

The Congress said on Thursday that the party shares "complete unanimity" with the NCP, its pre-poll ally, on all issues and they had concluded discussing everything.

Earlier, BJP's refusal to give in to Sena's demand for sharing the CM's post led to a break in ties between the oldest Hindutva allies. Afterwards, Sena started talking to NCP and Congress for their support to form government in the state.

Results of the October 21 Assembly polls were declared on October 24 and President's rule was imposed in the state on November 12 after no party or combine staked claim to form the new government.
