White Christmas Across These Snow-Clad Places In India

With Christmas around the corner, all you would want is to run to some pristine place, away from the humdrum of city life. And to enjoy the Christmas feels, one can travel to a few parts of India that turn into wonderlands of snow during Christmas. Often known as White Christmas, here are a few places that are a must-visit (reminder: post-pandemic) during peak winters. Blanketed in thick snow, these high-altitude hill stations are the perfect places for a Christmas joy ride.

With the cold wave sweeping northern India, this year winters are likely to be extra freezing, with temperatures dropping a few notches below the regular ones.


1. Himachal Pradesh

The hopes of a White Christmas is higher this year in Himachal Pradesh as the weather forecast predicts a wet spell on December 25. According to the Indian Meteorological Department, there could be a spell of snow and rain in various places across the state as a fresh Western Disturbance is set to sweep over the region.

2. Kashmir

As an intense cold wave continues in Jammu and Kashmir, heavy rain and snowfall are likely to lead to a White Christmas in the region. Sonam Lotus, director of the Meteorological Department (MeT) said, "Hopefully, we are going to have a white Christmas mass this year, reports IANS. Temperatures in the valley remain to be below the freezing point, with Jammu experiencing the season’s lowest.

3. Ladakh

Like Kashmir, Ladakh is likely to witness a White Christmas this year, as temperatures dropped to the season’s lowest. Speaking to reporters, the director of the Meteorological Department said that moderate to heavy snowfall is likely to occur in the Valley and Ladakh between December 23 to December 25”.

4. Shillong

Shillong on Wednesday was all covered in white with a hail storm sweeping the city, accompanied by a thunderstorm. This makes way for a White Christmas. The temperature dropped to 6 degrees celsius as the hill station turned white. The entire city that is now covered with a thick layer of snow, is expected to receive rainfall ahead of Christmas.
