On September 1,1965, Pakistan launches Operation Grand Slam in a bid to wrest Kashmir. A fierce tank battle is fought in Sialkot. Upkaar. Oozing patriotic fervour, the films theme song Mere Desh Ki Dharti assumes anthemic proportions. Kumar becomes cine-Bharat.
1965:Language riots erupt in Madras over the adoption of Hindi as Indias link language. M. Karunanidhi is among the arrested Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam agitators. In 1967,the party, which was formed in 1949,wins the Madras state assembly elections on the anti-Hindi plank. C.N. Annadurai is sworn in chief minister.
