The Special Director of the Intelligence Bureau has issued a warning regarding the exploitation of social media chat rooms for terrorist recruitment during the 49th All India Police Science Congress (AIPSC) held in Dehradun. The event, themed "Policing in Amrit Kaal," was hosted by the Uttarakhand Police at the Forest Research Institute on October 7.
In a session focused on the impact of social media on law and order, the Intelligence Bureau official highlighted the growing concerns surrounding social media's role in promoting separatism and facilitating terrorist recruitment. He emphasized that anti-social elements are leveraging these platforms to further their agendas, often in alignment with foreign interests, according to media reports.
Additionally, the IB Director presented four key strategies to address these challenges effectively.
During the event, Uttarakhand Director General of Police Ashok Kumar underscored the importance of integrating advanced technologies, such as smart weapons and indigenous equipment, into police modernization efforts under the Make in India initiative. The Police Tech Exhibition featured an array of stalls showcasing equipment related to forensic science, drones, robotics, smart weapons, IP cameras, telescopes, wireless technology, and cyber security.
Various organizations, including the Uttarakhand Police, the Cyber Crime Police Station, and the State Disaster Response Force, participated in the exhibition, highlighting the collaborative nature of the event.
The 49th AIPSC, held annually under the Bureau of Police Research and Development's auspices, addressed six key themes: Policing in the 5G Era, Narcotics: A Game-Changing Approach, Coordination between Police and Central Armed Police Forces (CAPFS), National Crime Records Bureau (NCRB), Internal Security and Social Media Challenges, and Community Policing.
