Karnataka Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar confirmed that the state government has decided to scrap the existing National Education Policy and replace it with a new one next year.

Karnataka Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar announced on Monday that the state government has decided to scrap the existing National Education Policy introduced by the Bharatiya Janata Party-led government and formulate a new education policy for the state in the coming year.

Shivakumar told the media that they held a meeting on Monday with the vice-chancellors and various academicians to examine the National Education Policy of 2021 and decided to scrap it in Karnataka.

Shivakumar also mentioned that Karnataka has a stronghold of educational institutions and human resources with which they will be able to formulate an education policy for their own state.

Shivakumar further said, "From next year we will come up with our education policy. We will form a committee within a week."

During the BJP rule, Karnataka was the first state to implement the National Education Policy in 2021 in the country.
