K Santhakumari, a woman MLA of the Communist Party of India (CPI(M)), has been accused of making rude remarks towards doctors who were on duty at a state-run hospital’s casualty.
The incident occurred after the MLA’s husband was allegedly not given enough attention while at the hospital. The doctors at the hospital have accused the MLA of insensitive comments, stating that healthcare workers are already reeling from the recent murder of a young woman doctor at a taluk hospital in Kollam district.
Doctors have claimed that they have already petitioned their higher-ups and union leaders against the MLA's behaviour. Meanwhile, Santhakumari has denied the allegations, stating that she only asked doctors to behave properly towards patients and was concerned that a thermometer had not been used at the casualty.
The MLA has stated that she is willing to express regret if needed.
