In Ujjain, the police arrested Bharat Soni, an autorickshaw driver, on Thursday for allegedly raping a 12-year-old girl who had been found injured while walking the city streets three days ago.
Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan has expressed his commitment to ensuring that justice is served in the case of the brutal rape of a minor girl in Ujjain. Speaking to reporters, Chouhan stated, "The accused, identified as Bharat, was caught and he suffered injuries in the process. I was following the investigation of the case every hour. Such persons have no place in society. He has injured the conscience of Madhya Pradesh."
The chief minister's remarks came as he immersed the Lord Ganesh idol installed at his official residence during the Ganesh festival. He emphasized, "The victim is the daughter of Madhya Pradesh. We will take care of her in every way. She is my daughter, as well as the state's daughter, and we will ensure that the accused gets stringent punishment," PTI reported.

The girl's condition, as reported by a member of the National Commission for Protection of Child Rights (NCPCR) who visited the hospital, is slowly improving.
During the course of the investigation, Soni attempted to escape while being taken to the crime scene for a recreation of the incident and the collection of evidence, including torn clothes. However, he was swiftly apprehended by Mahakal police station in-charge Ajay Verma.
The girl, who was discovered bleeding on a road within the Mahakal police station limits, underwent surgery performed by a team of specialist doctors at the Government Maharaja Tukojirao Holkar Women's Hospital in Indore on Wednesday. A counselor also interacted with her, establishing that she hails from the Satna district of Madhya Pradesh.
