A Mumbai sessions court on Monday sentenced life imprisonment to a dentist for stabbing his wife to death in front of their five-year-old child seven years back.
Mumbai-based dentist Umesh Bobale was found guilty by an Additional session judge P P Bankar of charges under relevant provisions of the Indian Penal Code and sentenced to life imprisonment.
Reportedly the Prosecution claimed that Bobale killed his wife with a kitchen knife by slitting her throat in front of their son in 2016. It also stated that the body of the victim had 34 injuries on it.
According to the reports, their son in his statement in the trial court in 2020, said, "my father killed her...with a knife". The child was in Class 2 when he faced deposition by the prosecution and defence as he was the key witness to the murder. Reportedly he told the officials that he did not scream when he saw the murder happen but he "felt something in his heart".
Reportedly, the couple had filed for divorce a few months before the killing and the disagreement between them that led to the murder of the woman was over the alimony amount that Bobale was supposed to pay.
During the deposition of the victim's sister, the court got to know that the troubles in their marriage began after six months of it. Sharing one of the instances the witness told the court that Bobale was suspicious of his wife who was an accountant and questioned her character often even when she was pregnant with their son. Reportedly he got a DNA test done to check his paternity for their son.
The prosecution also recorded the testimony of 10 people, as per reports.
