Indian Army and para-military forces have launched a major crackdown on miscreants in Manipur, resulting in the apprehension of at least 25 individuals along with a cache of arms, ammunition, and grenades. The operations were carried out in various locations across the strife-torn state, following fresh incidents of firing and clashes that occurred in and around the Imphal valley.
According to a spokesperson for the defence forces, the joint operations led to the detention of several people found in possession of weapons and war-like stores. In Imphal East, specifically in Sansabi, Gwaltabi, Shabunkhol, and Khunao, the Army successfully apprehended 22 miscreants. The recovered items included five 12-bore double barrel rifles, three single barrel rifles, one country-made weapon with double bore, and one muzzle-loaded weapon.
In a separate incident within Imphal city, a mobile check post intercepted a car with three passengers on Sunday night. Sensing trouble, the miscreants attempted to flee but were swiftly apprehended by alert troops on the ground. During the search, the security forces discovered an INSAS Rifle with a magazine, 60 rounds of 5.56mm ammunition, one Chinese hand grenade, and one detonator.
Overall, a total of 25 miscreants were caught during the operations and subsequently handed over, along with the seized weapons and munitions, to the Manipur Police.
