Minor Blast Reported For The Second Time In 30 Hours Near Golden Temple

The police are investigating the incidents, which occurred near the same spot, to determine whether they were an act of mischief or had a terror or personal angle.

A minor blast occurred for the second time in just 30 hours in Amritsar, close to the Golden Temple, on Monday morning. According to Indian Express, no casualties were reported, but two people suffered minor injuries, and a car windshield was broken. The first blast took place near the Bansal sweet shop, while the second blast occurred close to the same spot on the opposite side.

The police have cordoned off the area and started an investigation. The area is being scanned for any hidden explosives. The police noted that the absence of a triggering mechanism indicates that a crude kind of device was used. They added that it was too early to determine if it is an act of mischief or if there is a terror angle or a personal angle behind the incident. The significance of the timing of the blast will also be investigated, particularly with the Jalandhar Lok Sabha seat by-poll slated for May 10.

The DGP assured the public that the Punjab police are capable of managing peace and harmony, and transportation in the area is normal. He urged the public not to be swayed by rumors and noted that fact-checking on social media channels is being done to avoid such rumors. The CCTV footage will be examined, and people on the spot at the time of the blast will be questioned further to investigate the incident. Both the blasts resulted in minor injuries to one person each.

The first blast was on Saturday night, the incident occurred near a parking lot in front of Saragarhi Sarai, shattering windowpanes of a nearby restaurant and Saragarhi Sarai. The cause of the blast is yet to be determined and forensic teams are investigating the incident.
