Landslide Victory For BJP In Gujarat; Modi Calls Karyakartas 'Champions'

Crossing all the predictions of exit polls, BJP has marked a landslide victory in Gujarat that will be etched in history of the state forever.

BJP has garnered 156 seats in the 182-strong assembly pushing away both Congress and AAP to the birnk. And through this it becomes the only party in the history of Gujarat to cross the 150-mark. In 1985, under the leadership of Madhavsinh Solanki, Congress won 149 seats and since then no party even could touch the 145-mark. While the Congress has become the runner with 17 seats, AAP has registered to be a distant third with only five seats.

PM Narendra Modi while congratulating the Gujarat BJP leaders for their tireless efforts tweeted, "To all hardworking @BJP4Gujarat Karyakartas I want to say - each of you is a champion! This historic win would never be possible without the exceptional hardwork of our Karyakartas, who are the real strength of our Party."

The BJP state president of Gujarat, CR Patil said that Bhupendra Patel will take oath as the CM on December 12 in presence of PM Narendra Modi. This will be his second term as the CM of Gujarat.

Harsh Sanghvi, the Home Minister of the state, while showing gratitude to the people of the state said that this result shows the nationalist credentials of Gujarati people. He also added that Modi-Shah 'Jodi' has again been proved to be the most workable one in Gujarat.

Addressing the reporters amidst much fanfare, Sanghvi also slammed AAP saying that the party tried to humiliate people of Gujarat and got the right response.

Home Minister Amit Shah earlier said that the party will break all the earlier records.

“BJP is going to break all its records in Gujarat whether it is of winning maximum seats or getting maximum votes.

And a government will be formed under the leadership of Nanredrabhai and Bhupendrabhai," Shah said.

The Aam Admi Party (AAP) despite its all-out campaign in the Gujarat elections couldn't manage to cerate a stride, it is content with the national party status that they have achieved. Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal in a social media address congratulated the people of the state for making them a national party in such a small time. With their five seats in Gujarat, AAP now has presence in three states making it eligible for a national party designation.

Gujarat assembly elections nevertehless were crucial for AAP as the party expected some inroads in the state after its huge victory in Punjab earlier this year.

Notably, senior leaders of AAP including Rajiv Chadha had earlier rejected pollsters' predictions and said that the final result will be different.

However, after the exit polls, Kejriwal said that even 15-20 percent votes for the party in Gujarat would be a big success for a new entrant.

It is to be remembered that AAP came to power in Delhi following the anti-corruption movement led by Anna Hazare during the UPA-II government.

The election of Punjab was also held in the backdrop of the farmers' movement that shook the boats of BJP and forced it to call off three controversial farm laws.
