Samajwadi Party (SP) chief Akhilesh Yadav will be among some prominent leaders of different political parties who are scheduled to visit Mhow, Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar's birthplace in the Indore district of Madhya Pradesh, on Friday to pay tributes to architect of the Indian Constitution on his birth anniversary.
Elections to the 230-member Assembly in Madhya Pradesh, which is currently ruled by the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), are due by the end of this year.
Officials said that apart from Yadav, Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan and state Congress chief Kamal Nath will visit Mhow, about 25 km from the district headquarters, to pay respects to Dr. Ambedkar.
Yadav, who arrived here on Thursday, told reporters that his party will contest the Assembly polls in Madhya Pradesh with its full responsibility. However, he did not specify the number of seats that his party would contest.
The electoral politics in Madhya Pradesh has remained bipolar as it revolved around the Congress and the BJP. In the past elections, the SP and the Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) had made their presence felt in MP districts bordering Uttar Pradesh.
Meanwhile, Additional District Magistrate Abhay Bedekar told PTI that around one lakh followers of Dr. Ambedkar from different parts of the country are expected to gather in Mhow on the occasion of his birth anniversary.
Proper arrangements have been made in the army cantonment area to provide food, drinking water, and accommodation to them.
The MP government opened a memorial of Dr. Ambedkar at his birthplace on April 14, 2008.
