As heavy rain lashes parts of Mumbai, BMC has directed concerned officials to visit low-lying areas where there are chances of flooding and take prompt action.
Heavy rain lashed maximum city Mumbai on Wednesday resulting in waterlogging in several areas. The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) issued an advisory predicting the possibility of ‘heavy to very heavy’ rainfall for the next four to five days. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) too has predicted more showers, with moderate to intense rain spells in isolated places in the city.
According to the civic body, there were 26 incidents of tree fall, 15 of short-circuits, and five incidents of collapse/partial collapse of houses in Mumbai in the last 24 hours. In suburban Malad, a man died after a tree fell on him due to incessant rains.
BMC has directed concerned officials to visit low-lying areas where there are chances of flooding and take prompt action. Meanwhile, videos on Twitter showed flooded streets in several parts of the city and its suburbs like Andheri, Thane, Bhiwandi and other areas. Commuters also complained of traffic jams due to waterlogging.
According to popular weather agency Skymet, heavy rains in Mumbai will continue till June 30.

After a delayed onset of monsoon, heavy rainfall continues to lash several regions of the western part of the country including Goa's capital city, Panaji, which was flooded on Tuesday night due to the downpour.
According to the IMD forecast, squally weather with a wind speed of 40-45 kmph gusting to 55 kmph will persist along and off the south Maharashtra-Goa coast till July 1. It has advised fishermen not to venture into the sea along and off the south Maharashtra-Goa coast during the period.
