Hindu outfits at Pondri village in Haryana's Palwal decided to resume the 'mahapanchayat', which was disrupted due to the violence in Nuh, on August 28.
Internet has been restored in Haryana’s Nuh days after communal violence broke out in the region. The ban on internet and SMS services was extended after authorities said the situation was still "tense and critical" following the July 31 clashes. The ban was first placed till August 8 and then extended till August 11. It was further extended till Sunday.
"It has been brought to my notice by Deputy Commissioner Nuh that the law and order situation has been reviewed and the conditions are still critical and tense in the district," the order by Haryana's Home Secretary had read.
The clashes erupted after a group tried to stop a religious procession in Nuh organised by the Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP). Rumours that cow vigilante Monu Manesar would attend the procession reportedly sparked the violence.
Meanwhile, Hindu outfits at Pondri village in Haryana's Palwal decided to resume the 'mahapanchayat' on August 28. They have also demanded an NIA probe into the alleged attack on the VHP yatra on July 31 and to declare Nuh a cow slaughter-free district.
Six people, including two home guards and a cleric, died in the clashes in Nuh and neighbouring districts of Haryana. The violence also spread to Delhi’s sister city of Gurugram.
According to Haryana Home Minister Anil Vij, 393 individuals have been arrested and 118 subjected to preventive detention in connection with the recent communal disturbances. As many as 160 FIRs have been registered across districts including Nuh, Gurugram, Faridabad, Palwal, Rewari, Panipat, Bhiwani, and Hisar, he said in a press conference.
