National Conference leader Omar Abdullah said the Kashmiris are being betrayed in the name of elections, employment and development.
Jammu and Kashmir - In a rally held in south Kashmir's Kulgam district, former Jammu and Kashmir chief minister and National Conference vice president, Omar Abdullah, laid blame on the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) for what he described as 'spreading lies' about the region's development. Abdullah highlighted the severe electricity crisis in the Union Territory, asserting that the people have been deprived of basic amenities, including electricity.
“Here we are facing the worst electricity crisis. When we were ruling here, the situation was much better in J&K. The BJP only believes in spreading lies. If they say crores of funds are spent on development, then why don’t they spend money on the purchase of electricity for the UT in the period of crisis,” Omar said during the rally.
"They (BJP) fooled us in the name of providing employment. We have also been fooled by the BJP in the name of development,” he said, adding that it was unfortunate that people were facing power cuts for more than 10 to 12 hours.
The power crisis in the region has reached a critical point, with Jammu and Kashmir-owned power projects facing significant challenges. Power generation has plummeted by over 80 per cent, reaching a mere 200 MW out of the total installed capacity of 1197 MW. Unexpected power cuts have become a common problem, making winter challenges even tougher for people.
