August 12 each year is celebrated as the International Youth Day (IYD) to raise awareness about the challenges and problems faced by the youth. It was first observed in the year 2000. This day aims to endorse ways to engage the youth to more actively participate in affirmative contributions to their associations. The theme of the IYD 2020 is ‘Youth Engagement for Global Action’. It seeks to highlight the ways in which young people are enriching their country’s institutions or multilateral ones at the local, national and global levels. The theme also draws lessons on how their representation and engagement in formal institutional politics can be significantly enhanced.
