After the Patna meeting by opposition parties, Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge announced the second meeting to take place in Shimla in July but due to heavy rains it was relocated to Bengaluru. Now, the meeting has been postponed to July 17-18
The opposition parties who held a meeting in Patna last month, scheduled a second meeting in Bengaluru for July 17-18.
"After a hugely successful All-Opposition meeting in Patna, we will be holding the next meeting in Bengaluru on 17 and 18 July, 2023. We are steadfast in our unwavering resolve to defeat the fascist and undemocratic forces and present a bold vision to take the country forward," Congress General Secretary KC Venugopal said.
According to the reports, two reasons behind the postponement of the meeting could be the forthcoming monsoon session of the Bihar legislature which begins from July 10 to 14 and the budget-cum-monsoon session of the Karnataka assembly that begins from July 3 to 14 of the month.
Citing that Bihar's Chief Minister Nitish Kumar and Deputy Chief Minister Tejashwi Yadav would be busy for the states's monsoon session, the opposition parties in Bihar, Rashtriya Janata Dal and Janata Dal (United) had proposed to the Congress leadership for postponing the opposition meeting in Bengaluru.
Reportedly the Karnataka Congress also urged their central leadership for the postponement as they are going to host the meeting this time, the monsoon session of the state's assembly as the two would otherwise overlap.
On June 23 after the first Unity meeting was conducted in Patna, Bihar, Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge had reportedly announced the next meeting to be held in Shimla on July 10 and 12.
Sharad Pawar informed the media on Thursday that even though the meeting was considered to take place in Shimla first but due to the heavy rainfall in Himachal Pradesh the location was changed to Bengaluru. Pawar reportedly said, "Owing to prevailing wet weather and heavy rainfall in Himachal Pradesh, the venue of the meeting (of Opposition leaders) has been shifted from Shimla to Bengaluru. The meeting would be held on July 13 and 14."
