Bushra Bibi wrote a letter to the Punjab home secretary on Saturday where she mentioned that the court had asked the authorities for relocating Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) chairman from Attock jail in Punjab to Adiala prison in Rawalpindi.
Former Pakistan Prime Minister Imran Khan's wife Bushra Bibi has claimed that his life is in danger as he is incarcerated in Attock jail. Bibi has demanded better facilities in jail as she thinks there is a possibility of him being poisoned to death.
Bushra Bibi wrote a letter to the Punjab home secretary on Saturday where she mentioned that the court had asked the authorities for relocating Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) chairman from Attock jail in Punjab to Adiala prison in Rawalpindi. She reportedly wrote, "My husband has been imprisoned in Attock jail without any justification. According to the law, my husband should be transferred to Adiala jail."
According to PTI, Bibi has also said that given Khan's social and political status, Khan should be provided with B-class facilities.
Further Bibi has claimed that Khan could be poisoned in the Attock jail and she mentioned that previously two assassination attempts have been made against the PTI chairman and the accused have not been arrested yet. Bibi reportedly wrote, "His life is still in danger [and] there is a fear that my husband will be poisoned in Attock jail." Bushra Bibi suggested that Khan should be allowed to eat home-cooked meals in prison.
Reportedly, the PTI Core Committee expressed similar concerns over Khan's "slow-poisoning" and demanded that he should be allowed to have home-cooked food and water. The committee meeting strongly condemned the "inordinate delay" in providing better facilities in jail to the former prime minister, according to PTI.
After meeting Khan earlier this month, Bushra Bibi said that he was kept in 'distressing' conditions and given 'C-class facilities' in the Attock jail.
She also stated that, as is the case with jail regulations, Khan was to have been provided with all facilities in less than 48 hours but he has not accessed them for more than 12 days. She then said, "According to the jail rules, my husband has the right to undergo a medical examination by a private doctor.” Bibi has reportedly demanded an inquiry into why Khan has been denied better facilities there.
Bushra Bibi is Imran Khan's third wife and according to the reports she is known for her devotion to Sufism. Bushra Bibi has also faced charges of corruption like her husband.
The Islamabad trial court found the cricketer-turned-politician Imran Khan guilty of corrupt practices in the Toshakhana Case and has been imprisoned on August 5.
He was sentenced on charges of unlawfully selling state gifts acquired by him and his family during his 2018-2022 tenure.
Khan has also been barred from politics for five years, preventing him from contesting an upcoming election. He has denied any wrongdoing.
