Earlier this year, the controversy was stirred by the US Department of Justice's indictment which claimed that an Indian government employee directed a plot to assassinate pro-Khalistani leader Gurpatwant Singh Pannun in Americal soil.
In connection with the ongoing turmoil over the Unites States' claim of Indian government's association with an alleged assassination plot against pro-Khalistani leader Gurpatwant Singh Pannun in American soil, Matthew Miller, the spokesperson for the United States Department of State, on Tuesday, said that the US has been taking the matter 'very seriously' while highlighting their intenion to wait for the result of the investigation launched by India.
The controversy stemmed from the US Department of Justice's indictment that claimed that an Indian government employee directed a plot to assassinate Gurpatwant Singh Pannun.
Responding to the allegation, India described it as a "matter of concern" and promptly asserted that follow-up action will be taken.
Gurpatwant Singh Pannun is known to be a designated terrorist in India.
"I said I wouldn't comment on the underlying substance because it is an ongoing law enforcement matter and it would be inappropriate for me to do so when the DOJ (US Department of Justice) is presenting a case in court. I also made clear that we have noted at the most senior levels of this government, the Secretary of State has raised this directly with his foreign counterpart that we take this issue very seriously," Matthew Miller, the spokesperson for the United States Department of State said on Tuesday.
"They told us they would conduct an investigation. They have publicly announced an investigation and now we'll wait to see the results of the investigation. It's something we take very seriously," he further added.
When asked about 'his confidence over the Indian government's cooperation with the US Department of Justice, Miller said, "We have urged them to cooperate with the Canadian investigation. With respect to their own investigations, not the DOJ investigation, they have said that they will conduct it. We are looking forward to seeing the results of that investigation, and I’m not going to make any assessments, obviously, before the investigation itself is completed."
