All six intruders including the mastermind Lalit Mohan Jha, have been taken into custody by Delhi Police. Four of them have been charged under anti-terror law, the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA).
Six accused have been arrested after a major security breach in the Parliament on Wednesday, that witnessed chaotic scenes with two persons jumping into the Lok Sabha chamber from the public gallery during Zero Hour, and releasing yellow gas from canisters. Four of them have been charged under anti-terror law, the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA).
The six accused had known each other for four years and hatched the plan a few days ago. They also performed a recce before coming to Parliament on Wednesday, Delhi police sources told PTI. The incident raised questions about the security infrastructure of the parliament and how are Parliament visitor passes issued.
1. Mastermind Lalit Mohan Jha under interrogation
Mastermind Lalit Mohan Jha came to the police station on his own. He is being interrogated: Delhi Police.
Jha is the sixth accused to have been arrested in connection with the security breach that took place in the Parliament.
2. Delhi court sends four accused to seven-day police custody
The Delhi Police brought the four arrested individuals - Manoranjan D, Sagar Sharma, Neelam Azad, and Amol Shinde - to the Patiala House Court on Thursday. The prosecution has accused them of terrorism, asserting that they attempted to incite fear. The Delhi court has ordered a seven-day police custody for the four accused arrested.
3. Suspended Opposition MPs stage sit-in protest After Suspension.
Suspended Opposition MPs had staged a sit-in protest inside the Parliament over their suspension earlier this evening. A total of 15 MPs – 14 from Lok Sabha and 1 from Rajya Sabha – were suspended today for the remainder of the winter session after they protested against a security breach in the parliament.
Both houses of Parliament have been adjourned after the opposition uproar demanding a discussion over the Lok Sabha security breach.
4. Four accused charged under UAPA.
The four accused have been charged under sections of the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act, and 120B and 452 of the Indian Penal Code. Sagar Sharma (26) and Manoranjan D (34), who jumped into the Lok Sabha chamber, and Amol Shinde (25) and Neelam (42) who were nabbed outside Parliament premises– were detained at Parliament Street Police Station for questioning. Police have also detained a fifth person from Gurugram.
5. Opposition leaders demand action against BJP MP Prathap Simha.
Opposition leaders have called for action against Pratap Simha, a Member of Parliament from the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). He is alleged to have signed the passes that were used by intruders to access the public gallery in Parliament.
Sources told PTI that the BJP MP knew Manoranjan D, one of the intruders, as he hailed from his constituency Mysuru and would often visit the parliamentarian's office.
