Prime Minister Narendra Modi spoke with his Israeli counterpart Benjamin Netanyahu regarding the escalating situation in West Asia. Modi's call with Netanayhu comes days after the Israeli military carried out extensive air strikes in Lebanon, targeting Hezbollah leaders.
Taking to social media platform X, PM Modi stated that "terrorism has no place in our world. It is crucial to prevent regional escalation and ensure the safe release of all hostages".
"India is committed to supporting efforts for an early restoration of peace and stability," he added further.
In the past weel, Israeli strikes in Lebanon have killed seven high-ranking commanders and officials from the Lebanese militant group Hezbollah, including the group's chief Hassan Nasrallah.
Since October 7, 2023, which was the start of the war between Israel and Hamas, Hezbollah has exchanged fire with Israeli forces in the northern region of the state.
Pledging their allegiance to Hamas, the Lebanese militant group has intensified its attacks against Israel as part of the fight for the Palestinian cause.
Following the Hamas attack in October 2023, India was quick to condemn the act of terrorism. Taking to social media, PM Modi issued a statement expressing solidarity with Israel.
"Deeply shocked by the news of terrorist attacks in Israel. Our thoughts and prayers are with the innocent victims and their families. We stand in solidarity with Israel at this difficult hour,” stated Modi on X.
Despite expressing solidarity with Israel, India has pushed for the two-state solution between Israel and Palestine time and again. After the war in Gaza broke out, New Delhi reiterated its stance for an urgent two-state solution to bring peace and stability to the region.
